Celebrating the Rural & Remote Health Community:

November marked the 5th annual Rural Health Month, a dedicated time for celebrating and supporting the tireless work of the rural health community.

This month-long celebration serves as an important reminder of the unique challenges faced by healthcare providers in rural and remote areas, as well as the incredible dedication they demonstrate in overcoming these obstacles to ensure that people living outside major urban centers receive the care they deserve.

November saw the 5th annual Rural Health Month, a time for celebrating and supporting the work of the rural health community.

Rural Doctors Network (RDN) once again held a series of multidisciplinary training and networking events and celebrations for Rural Health Month, starting with the National Rural and Remote Health Awards in Canberra, hosted by Rural Health Pro, a social enterprise of RDN.

The Awards were inaugurated last year at Parliament House with an address by the Hon Emma McBride MP, Assistant Minister for Rural & Regional Health. This year, the Awards were graced by the attendance of the Governor-General, and once again drew nominations from across rural and remote Australia.

"Healthcare is so much more than just about treatment. It is education, it's prevention and management, it's project planning and execution, it's communication and collaboration, innovation and so much more," the Governor-General said. "Yours are not just jobs, but vocations of care. Your work is essential to the wellbeing of all Australians and the prosperity and progress of our nation."
